I, too, have had days like the one you've described, and it was nice to read your piece and be able to relate. Like you, I've had to make apologies, too, at those times and forgive myself and just pick myself back up. I've learned one thing, though: I won't let myself check email anymore after a certain time in the evening -- whether it's good or bad news, it can wait until the next day when I can deal with whatever it has to say refreshed.
